The Fifth International Conference on Advanced Science and Engineering (ICOASE2025) organized by the University of Zakho and the Duhok Polytechnic University.

Under the patronage of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and with the participation of the Presidents of the Universities of Duhok, Akre, Nawroz, as well as a number of researchers and academics, the Fifth International Conference on Advanced Science and Engineering (ICOASE2025) commenced on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. The event is jointly organized by the Duhok Polytechnic University and the University of Zakho, and held at the (Azadi/ Freedom) Hall of the Duhok Technical Institute.

 

At the opening session, Prof. Dr. Ari Adel, President of Duhok Polytechnic University, delivered a welcoming speech, extending greetings to the participants and providing an overview of the conference. He reported that 167 research papers from 12 Arab and international countries were submitted, of which 84 papers were accepted for presentation. More than 151 researchers contributed to the conference, and the papers were rigorously evaluated by over 114 reviewers. He further emphasized with satisfaction that the accepted papers will be published across seven scientific journals (Dasnia, Pesar, Science Journal, NTU Journal, Mansoura Journal, Al-Rafidain Journal of Computer Sciences, and Al-Rafidain Journal of Engineering). Notably, two of these journals are indexed in Scopus, three in DOAJ, and two with DOI registration.

 

In his address, Dr. Diyar Abdulkarim, President of the University of Zakho, highlighted the significance of this international conference and expressed his appreciation to Duhok Polytechnic University for their successful organization of this important academic event. He also confirmed their joint commitment to preparing for the Sixth International Conference in the coming years.

 

Speaking on behalf of the Ministry, Dr. Amir Abdulrahman, Representative of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, congratulated the universities on the occasion of the new academic year, and commended both host universities for their commitment to advancing academic research through such conferences. He also expressed hope that other universities in Duhok Governorate would take part in future editions. In continuation of his remarks, Dr. Amir noted that beginning this September, 70% of universities’ revenues will be returned to the institutions themselves, a policy intended to ensure sustainability and support the universities’ academic and research activities.

 

The conference program proceeded with a keynote lecture delivered by Dr. Jasim Abbo, followed by the screening of two short documentaries showcasing the history and development of the organizing universities. Additionally, four opening seminars were presented by Prof. Dr. Rami Hikmat, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Al-Ani, Prof. Dr. Razzaq Farhadi, and Prof. Dr. Azad Najjar.

 

On the morning of the second day, Thursday, September 25, 2025, certificates and acknowledgments were distributed to the organizing committees and conference participants, with additional seminars scheduled for the afternoon. The second day’s activities of the conference will continue at the College of Science, University of Zakho.
